Amazon’s October Prime Day sale is in full swing, and the SimpliSafe 12-Piece Wireless Home Security System with HD Camera is down to $159.99 from $339.99, a nearly $180 discount and its lowest price to date, according to price trackers. It is a fairly comprehensive starter kit for the money, with a base station and keypad, along with five entry sensors, two motion sensors, a key fob, a panic button, and a SimpliCam indoor camera— enough to cover the front and back doors and three windows, with the motion sensors watching a hallway and a living room. Our broader roundup of smart home deals during October Prime Day has more security cameras, smart locks, and video doorbells currently on sale.

Each motion sensor covers 35 feet across a 90-degree field of view, so one placed in a corner can watch a whole room, and both ignore pets under 60 pounds, according to the manufacturer, meaning a cat or beagle shouldn't trip them but a Labrador might. You can arm or disarm the system through the SimpliSafe app, while Alexa and Google Assistant support adds voice controls. Keeping all of that connected is the base station, which uses both Wi-Fi and cellular connectivity and has a backup battery that can keep the system running for up to 24 hours during a power outage.

That said, while the current price covers the equipment and includes one free month of professional monitoring (after which plans start at less than $1 to just over two dollars per day), some features are tied to that subscription, including the panic button’s ability to dispatch police, as well as app alerts and 30-day camera video storage. Without a plan, you can still use the system as a local alarm and arm or disarm it from the keypad or key fob, but you’ll lose some of the remote and monitored features that make the full setup more useful.
